Our Eat Better, Start Better programme was commissioned by the Department for Education and developed with organisations like PACEY, the National Day Nurseries Association and the Pre-School Learning Alliance. Joining our programme is a great way to show how you meet the welfare and nutrition requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted’s new Common Inspection Framework.
More than a thousand nurseries, pre-schools and children’s centres are using our Eat Better, Start Better programme. Their staff say they now feel more confident feeding the children they look after – whether that’s knowing what portion sizes to give, understanding food labels or catering for fussy eaters.
Almost 40 councils are using our Eat Better, Start Better programme to help them improve the food childcare providers offer in their area, and to run cooking sessions with young children and families. Whatever your local priorities, we can help you get young children off to a better start with food – supporting your work to improve their health, education and life chances.
If you provide food for young children, our training courses are a great way to build your knowledge, skills and confidence. We’ve trained hundreds of people in local authority teams and those working in nurseries, children’s centres and as childminders on providing better food for under-fives and getting young children cooking – we’d love to help you too.
Find out about our work to get the nation cooking. We’ve created thousands of community cooking clubs, trained hundreds of volunteers to give children and families the skills, knowledge and confidence to cook meals from scratch and every year we celebrate the joy of cooking and eating together in our Cookathon.
It can be tough to take time out to attend training courses. That’s why we offer a huge range of online training options, so you can learn at a time and place that suits you. Check out how to join our network and access unlimited courses, forums, exclusive videos and much more.
Looking for a recipe? Check out our database of hundreds of tasty ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Unlike most recipes, we tell you what equipment you’ll need to have ready and how you can mix up the method next time to try a different twist on an old favourite or a new way to use leftovers. Build your own cookbook and share your favourites!
