Meat-free isn’t just for committed vegetarians. Eating more meals without meat can help you cut your saturated fat intake, which can reduce your risk of some diseases. It can also help you reach your 5-a-day, cut your carbon footprint and keep your food bill down.

Of course – just avoiding meat completely won’t necessarily mean your diet is healthy. Like everyone, vegetarians need to make sure they eat a balanced diet, for example by making sure they get a wide range of different protein sources. You can find out more about healthy vegetarian diets on the NHS choices website.
